Philosophies: Graphics2002.04.01For my own personal website, I am not using a ton of F/flash and graphics for a few reasons... Part of it is a simple matter of time -- there is no denying that graphics (including Flash), can be one of the most time-consuming areas of a website's development. With other clients' website to work on, I choose to concentrate on content.
Another reason is that I know that not everyone worries about upgrading their computer or their browser software every few weeks, nor downloads even the most common plug-ins, nor does everyone have a broadband Internet connection allowing them to slice through graphics like butter. Finally, for my own project, I like the rough and ready classic website that values text over pictures of text, clear navigation and stationary objects.
Good, well-placed graphics and Flash do have their place on the Web, contrary to what the hardcore Web veterans (who learned what HTML was 8 years ago instead of 4 years ago!) will tell you. And when used wisely, they can truly enhance your experience. But I do agree with that old-school breed that organization, clarity and namely Information must reign supreme. The purpose of design is two-fold:
Hopefully this site does that for you. Feel free to contact me with any feedback you have. |
