About The Great Network
Hold Strong The Bond of Nederland.
Founded in 1995, the Great Network (GNet) began as an Internet platform for former Rotary Exchange Students based in Holland from 1994 to 1995 to maintain post-exchange relationships with cohorts from different countries. For several years, GNet members eagerly engaged in group and individual email correspondence - as well as telephone calls and personal visits. But in recent memory, the GNet collective has been relatively inactive, aside from fragments in North America, Australia and perhaps elsewhere.
Thankfully, that changed in early 2004. In a watershed moment sparked
by alcohol-induced
nostalgia and uncharacteristic motivation, GNetters Eric J. Reid and
Mark Sitter decided to develop a GNet Website and 
an
organic outreach program. So far, both of these initiatives have been
successful at reconnecting a growing number of GNet members from around
the globe. With any luck, the GNet will be flourishing in time for the
10-year Exchange Anniversary in 2005. Use this site to keep abreast of
various members and activities that are being planned.
The Vision
To reconnect and further develop the bonds of both intense and superficial friendship originally forged in Holland in the mid-nineties among an international community of Rotary Exchange Students who collectively form "The Great Network."
The Great Network Mission Statement
To provide a living repository of contact information, life updates and growing services to serve a community born out of the Rotary Exchange Student experience in Holland 1994 and 1995.
As time goes one, depending upon the strength of interest, this may include:
- Member Profiles
- Member Contact Information (See profiles link above.)
- Member E-mail Distribution List (GNet@ericjreid.com)
- Map of Holland, complete with towns wherein different members of The Great Network were "stationed" during the exchange year
- Map of the world, complete with locations where different members currently reside
- A message board for posting a running commentary of thoughts, news, general baiting, etc. (See general email distribution list above.)
- A venue whereby a possible REHR (Rotary Exchange Holland Reunion)
may be considered and orchestrated
- 1st REHR Postponed: 2005 Las Vegas Reunion (Sept. 9-11, 2005)
- Mini-REHRs may by vastly facilitated by this... Just think - old friends could find you out of the blue and then try to impose upon your new, tranquil, established life with a spontaneous visit!
