After
the Dutch experiment, I returned home and did my final year of high school
in the country town I grew up in. Finally moved to the city for Uni the
following year, and into an infamous student house with my older brother.
Mandi moved in the following year, and I kindly did her the disservice
of introducing her to all things Normanby Rd. that had been handed down
my circle of friends for years. Including my barman mate Rob, beer-art,
indoor caving, and the value of op-shops and second-hand furniture.
Two other important things about these years of high hilarity rate a mention. The first being that we had a Canadian backpacker by the name of Nicole Slater come and pitch a tent in our backyard for almost 4 months. Nickers was closely followed by her sister Kim, and tent city was installed.
It was during Nickers' occupation of the backyard that we had our largest reunion to date, for Carmen's nuptials. Ainslie flew in to Melbourne, and the four of us took a road trip down to Carmen's wedding. Bloody marvellous.
The second important thing was a particular party we held. Mandi invited a cousin of hers that I hadn't met before. Later in the night he pinched a six-pack of beer and hid it under one of the fruit trees in the backyard. When I made a public announcement requesting said beer be returned, (beer theft is a serious offence at uni parties,) this same cousin of Mandi's showed me where it was, so he could attack me under the fruit trees. He never left the party and we've been together for six years.
Alan and I moved to the middle of nowhere in Western Australia two years ago. Our plan is for Al to work in the mining industry and earn megabucks, so we can buy a property to settle on back home in regional Victoria.
So far the plan is right on track. We've bought a house here that we're renovating, and added a second golden retriever and a cat to the family.
Ainslie's very proud that we're now Western Australians. What we weren't quite planning on was my career taking off since we moved to WA. I'm gaining some very unique experiences here, and my role keeps extending. The health region I look after extends from the Central deserts to the coast, and includes six hospitals, six nursing posts, and fifteen Aboriginal Community Clinics.

Vote for a 2005 Rotary Exchange Holland Reunion (REHR):
Holland is obvious, but I'd settle for one in each country linked by web cam, or somewhere none of us comes from, so we all need to travel.
