Postponed: Rotary Holland Reunion 2005, Las Vegas

Statosphere Tower Hotel - copyright stratosphere.com2005_08_23:

Hey, all,

I am postponing the 2005 Vegas GNet Reunion.

I received several emails and made a few calls... It sounds like this is not a great date / time / location for the group. It only looked like there were going to be 2 or 3 of us coming out, and I'd like us to have a bit bigger group.

I am open to suggestions to plan the next big thing, although I don't think leaving the continent is all that feasible for most of us, financially. If anyone has a situation where they can "host" from their home, I'm sure that might help cut down on costs.

In the meantime -- keep in touch! I will try to add some more features (and profiles like Kerry, Amery and Alejandro), so keep checking out the website from time to time...

OK, enough talk. It's time for a reunion. Vegas, good friends, old memories, new stories. Be there.

There has been a great silence on the GNet and I haven't kept the fires burning in the past few months. But I have not forgotten the big plan to set up a GNet Reunion in Vegas in September 2005. Time is running out to set something up resembling a 10-year reunion, so here are the details:

Reunion Headquarters at Stratosphere Tower Hotel

I have reserved a room at the Stratosphere hotel in Vegas. It's supposed to be a block off the strip and seems to have some fun amenities (http://www.stratospherehotel.com). Also, I got relatively cheap rates on my room for a hotel like this ($180 for 2 nights). The website shows rooms for $162 for both nights in the Regency Tower, too.

Sept 9-11 Weekend

Dates for the reunion will be Sept 9-11. I figure most people will get in sometime on Friday night Sept 9, and leave sometime Sunday Sept 11. That leaves most "hanging out" time to take place on Saturday the 10th, though I will be happy to meet up with people Friday afternoon/evening for drinks, etc. [This is a change in date from the last plan, but the lodging everywhere was cheaper on this weekend, so I've changed it.]

Alternate Lodging Considerations

Although it would be most convenient to have everyone in the same hotel, I would hate for someone not to make it because the lodging was too expensive... I did a search on Expedia.com with my flight and found some of the following hotels that are much cheaper. I imagine someone from California will drive or one of us will rent a car; taxis are another option... You can always choose one of these other cheaper hotels and then hang out with everyone else at the GNet Reunion headquarters at the Stratosphere.

Here are some alternate hotels at a much lower rate (and you could be ferried to/from the Reunion HQ):

  • Gold Spike Hotel and Casino;
  • Wild Wild West Gambling Hall and Hotel;
  • Somerset House Motel;
  • Four Queens Hotel and Casino.

I am also open to sharing rooms with people or encouraging you guys to set that up on your own. (Stratosphere rooms are based on double occupancy; there is a $15 upcharged or a third; someone can bunk with me if they wanna split the cost of the room.)

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and see who all thinks they can make it...

We're going to Vegas, baby. Goed zo, jongens!
